“I need a smoke, Bella.”
A giggle bubbled up out of my chest with his randomness. “I figured as much in the lounge. Do you want me to tell you no?”
He shook his head. “I want you to tell me it’s fine as long as I’m not anywhere near you.”
“It’s not. I would like to see you live long enough to be that badass surgeon you’re going to school for.”
“You know about that?”
“Of course. This is Forks, Edward.”
He let out a dry sound with that. “So that’s a no on the cigarette, then.”
“That’d be a no,” I confirmed.
He grumbled under his breath. “Shit. You’re going to kill me.”
“No, I’m not. I’m going to save you.”
An emotion flashed in his eyes, gone so quickly, I didn’t have time to think about it. “Okay, I’ll just go out to the car and put on another goddamned patch.”
“Thank you.”
“Go get some of that cake, yeah? Rosie’s pestering the hell out of me to get you back in there. Says she’s tired of being the only girl around here or some shit.”
“All right.”
“And don’t fucking touch anyone else.” His face softened as he reached out to cup my face. “You only touch me.”
I fought back a shiver uselessly and nodded. “Mm-kay.”
“And I only touch you,” he murmured.
“Yeah?” I whispered, searching his face. I wanted to kiss him, to feel him give that part of himself that he’d given only me. I’d longed for his lips to find mine again all week long.
A photo of Maggie flashed in my mind, and I instantly felt guilty. But it wasn’t enough to stop me from wanting him, needing him.
I didn’t think anything would.

Dear Maggie Chapter 7 Teaser
The sky was purple with twilight when we got back to our vehicles. I hurried over to my truck and threw my backpack inside. I debated leaving without a goodbye, but I couldn’t do it. I could never just leave Edward in the dust.
Resigned, I spun around and came face to face with him, watching as his lips contorted into that snarl I loved so much as soon as our eyes connected.
“You’re fucking mad at me…” He paused, raking me with a derisive look. “You’re fucking pissed off because I was honest with you and told you I was no good for you? What kind of shit is-?”
“No, I’m fucking pissed off because you’re telling me what I can and cannot do with my life, what’s ‘for the best’,” I mocked. “I spent my entire life having my mother do it, and then have had to deal with the same shit coming from every doctor that has ever examined me. I’m not doing it with anyone else ever again, Edward. Not even you. No matter how much I might want to be with you.”
“God,” hand through the hair again, “fuck!” he screamed. “Do you know how badly I want to tell you to just fuck off? That I don’t care if you’re pissed at me?”
“Then do it,” I challenged. But my body belied my words and sagged against the seat.
He growled. “Why is this so hard? Why can’t I just let you stay mad at me?”

Dear Maggie Chapter 4 Teaser
Happy Sunday!
--
“Don’t think I didn’t notice,” she said cryptically. “It was the first thing I saw when I got here.”
“What’s that?” I croaked, hanging on to the side of the Jeep for dear life.
“How clean the truck is. I drove it all the way from Phoenix-“
“Wait, you drove from fucking Phoenix?” I asked in disbelief. “Why?”
“Why not?”
“Why didn’t you just take a plane?”
“Because I moved here,” she answered simply.
“Yeah, but…” I stopped myself before I could give away how much I wanted to learn everything about her.
She read my like an open book. “I just needed the time away. Know what I mean?”
“Yeah.”
“Anyway, Emmett told me it was your idea,” she told me. “So thank you.”
“Sure.”
She lingered beside me for a little while longer, watching me tighten bolts and check the hoses. Normally, this would have bothered me. I despised people staring at me. But with Bella… it felt okay. Not exactly comfortable, but that was because of my issues. Not her.
Never her.
“Why’d you run?” she eventually whispered. “Last night. Why’d you run?”
My grip on the ratchet faltered, and it spiraled through the twists and turns of the engine and all of its components before finally hitting the floor with an echoing clank.
“You scare me,” I answered lowly, reiterating the very thing I’d been thinking.
Her brow furrowed. “I do?”
“More than you could possibly imagine,” I said dryly. “For reasons you couldn’t imagine.”
“If you had any idea what I’ve been through, you might disagree with that statement,” she protested.
“So you think your baggage can come anywhere close to matching mine?”
She exhaled sharply. “No. But I think I could understand you more than you want me to. And more than anyone else ever could.”
I didn’t have an answer to that. I ached to tell her that she was probably right, but obstinacy kept me from it. It was my secret to bear. No one else’s.

Also another huge thanks to PAWsPeaches and The Lemonade Stand blog for pimping Dear Maggie out this last week. If you didn't already notice, there's a new Dear Maggie banner on the right hand side that PAWsPeaches made. It's fabulous. And everyone should tell her so.

Dear Maggie Ch 3 Teaser
A sharp rap on my window had me jumping in my seat so high that the phone tumbled out of my hands and down to the floorboard. I glanced over and was stunned to find Edward staring back at me.
His eyes were bright with fire and his face was gorgeously contorted with anger as he wrenched my door open. “I don’t give a shit about where you came from and how safe you feel in this small town, you don’t fucking sit in a dimly lit parking lot with unlocked doors! By yourself! Jesus, Bella; are you that stupid? Do you want to get raped or something?”
I stared at him in bewildered silence. He was close enough that I could feel his breath ghost across my skin and heat roll off his body, slamming into me and doing the most… wicked of things. His scent circled around me, leaving me lightheaded and drooling as I finally caught that bold, spicy flavor that matched the intensity of the man it belonged to. A hint of the sweet smell of tobacco was underneath it all, and I wanted to close my eyes and just… savor it.
Or maybe huff would’ve been the more appropriate term. He made me unable to think, breathe… function. I wanted to dive headfirst and explore it all, have him teach me everything about what it meant to crave someone like this.
“Well?” he snarled. “Do you?”
“NO!” I shouted, finally getting my wits back about me. “My truck won’t start, you asshole!”
He backed up immediately and ran his hands through his already chaotic hair. “I’m going to pop the hood.”
I blinked. “What?”
“I’m. Going. To. Pop. The. Hood,” he growled.
“Fine,” I growled back, jumping out of my truck the second he spun away from me.
I followed him over to the front of the truck and waited as he expertly found the lever and opened the hood. He peered inside, cursing at how low the light was, and then raced over to his own car.
He came back with a flashlight in one hand and a small bag of tools in the other. He motioned for me to get behind the wheel, which I grudgingly agreed to, although, I honestly had no clue why. He was such a jerk. Cute or not.
“My dad’s inside,” I yelled at him through the hood. “He can take me home and we can just have it towed to the shop tomorrow.”
“Shut up and turn the ignition,” was the answer I got back.

While You Were Gone Chapter 13 Teaser
Um, I'm alive. I promise. *toes floor sheepishly* So, I have something in the works, other than WYWG... like a new AH fic. (Yay!) In the meantime, here's the tease for chapter 13:
--
“I’ve thought about that,” Jasper responded. “And I have an easy solution, as long as Carlisle says it’s all right.”
“Which is?” Carlisle asked.
“She phases and takes Cal up to the site that way. He’s strong enough to stay on her back the entire way there and none of Victoria’s army has been able to recognize her scent in wolf form. It would also… mask Cal’s scent as well.”
Because he smelled like a mixture of the two of us, just enough non-human to not pose as food but intriguing enough that they would follow his scent if they caught it. If Bella smelled like the rest of the pack did to me, no vampire in their right mind would go anywhere near it.
Jasper’s logic was nearly infallible.
--
Short and sweet, just like the beta dude likes it.
Later guys!
xx

While You Were Gone Chapter 11 Teaser
This teaser really has... nothing to do with the entire chapter. We're awful ;)

“The clinic’s done?” I blurted out.
Carlisle smiled at me. “It is. It should open to the public on Monday.”
“Huh.” Carlisle laughed at my surprise, so I quickly explained myself. “I just didn’t realize you’d been working on it so much.
Sorry,” I told him with a hot blush.
“You’d be amazed at what you can accomplish when you don’t sleep,” he responded.
I had no response to that. It seemed like all the vampires around me were busying themselves while I was sleeping.
“Before we go,” he continued, “I wanted to propose something to you all.”
Billy sat up a little straighter. “Which is?”
“I thought that maybe we could help with the tribe’s finances.”
A low murmur of shock went throughout the room. Paul sneered something to Sam, stopping only when he saw me watching him.
Jerk.
“I don’t know,” Billy said slowly.
“I understand your hesitance,” Carlisle responded, “but let me answer with this. We’ve considered you family since the moment Bella and Edward imprinted. With my daughter Alice’s… special abilities, we’ve done well for ourselves. It wouldn’t be a burden to help fund certain things the tribe needs help with.”
Billy still looked skeptical.
Edward interjected. “Believe me when I say that Alice has made Carlisle more money than one can possibly dream of.”
Billy was silent for a moment. “Can we think about it?”

While You Were Gone Chapter 10 Teaser
I'm a fail with writing lately... huge apologies. Between the holidays and an awesome block, I haven't had much time to write. And when I did, I just stared at the doc blankly. Annoying ;)
--
I shook my head. “I need your help with an… experiment of sorts.” It was a partial truth. Alice and I simply needed her out of the main house to show her the surprise we’d all spent the last few days working on for her. Bella was usually not a fan of surprises; however, I had a feeling that this specific baby gift would be well received.
Her brow furrowed. “An experiment?”
“It requires you to get up, though,” I teased.
“I’ll get up,” she protested, yawning again. “Maybe.”
I chuckled. “So I was thinking about your DNA…” I started, awaiting her reaction. She just stared wide-eyed up at me, so I continued. “And the reaction that you had to Riley’s scent inside Charlie’s house.”
I could see the wheels turning. “You think they’re connected?”
“Carlisle and I debated it, yes, and we’ve come up with a theory. Would you like to hear it?”
She nodded eagerly. “Yeah. Of course I do.”
“We think my—well, Carlisle’s—venom has something to do with that. You see, everyone in this house was changed by Carlisle, with the exception of Alice and Jasper. His mark was made on all of us when he changed us. And since a little of my venom was left behind, and I’m your mate-“
“None of you would have that same bleach-y smell to you that Riley had.”
“Bleach-y?” I asked, taken a bit aback by her description. None of the other wolves had ever used that term to describe it. They simply recoiled with the burn our scent caused.
She shuddered at the memory. “That’s the only way I can describe it. It was such a sickly sweet smell. It burned like bleach does when it’s accidentally inhaled.”
“Well, in any case, since Alice and Jasper weren’t changed by Carlisle, we wanted to see if they smelled any different away from the house and the rest of the family.” This theory had to be right. It was the only explanation for why we didn’t smell revolting to Bella and vice versa.
“Okay. When?”
“Now, if you’re up to it.”
She swung her legs around and heaved herself off of the couch. “I’m up to it.”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
